Coot

[screenshot of Coot]

Coot (Crystallographic object-oriented toolkit) is for model building, model completion and validation.

Coot displays maps and models and allows model manipulations such as idealization, real space refinement, manual rotation/translation, rigid-body fitting, ligand search, solvation, mutations, rotamers, and Ramachandran plots.

Coot is being developed to contain many of the features of O, Quanta, and the XFit program from XtalView. Please note that Coot is still under development. It could engage in buggy behavior. Use at your own risk.

To use in the Core on a Linux or SGI workstation, for the latest version, simply type:

setup coot

or for specific versions, type:

setup coot 0.5

or

setup coot 0.5.2

A PDF-format user manual and tutorial are available locally, as is a Quick Guide to Coot's Keys and Buttons.

There is also an up-to-date version of the user manual available at the Coot website. For the extremely impressive power user who wants to use scripting with Coot, there is also the difficult-to-read reference manual.

How does one cite Coot?

Emsley, P. and Cowtan, K. (2004). Acta Cryst D 60, 2126-2132

A local copy of the paper is available.
