Below is a comparison of anisotropic display by ellipsoids made by several graphics programs here in the CSB core lab. The example scripts will give you an idea of how to make your own similar figure.

PLUTON is good for making Postscript output. The Postscript output may be viewed using Ghostview and /or printed directly on a Postscript printer. PLUTON is a module within PLATON and a GUI window provides rotation and various display options. The script for this image is here. Anti-aliasing is not necessary for the Postscript output.
Raster3D is also good for making anisotropic ellipsoids. Several different ellipsoids may be displayed. The initial output may be an SGI *.rgb file. The script for this image is here.
Image rotation must be done through a rotation matrix in the command file. Anti-aliasing is good.
